What time is Dhuhr today in Herkes?

Dhuhr in Herkes, Nijerya begins today (Thursday, September 24, 2026) at 12:25 local time (Africa/Lagos). It starts the moment the sun passes its zenith and continues until the start of Asr at 15:41.

Why is Dhuhr called 'the middle prayer' in some sources?

Some classical commentators identify Dhuhr as the 'middle prayer' (al-salat al-wusta) mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:238 — the prayer at the high point of the daily cycle. Other scholars hold Asr to be the middle prayer; both views are valid and the dua of either prayer benefits the worshipper.

What is the difference between Dhuhr and Jumu'ah on Friday?

On Fridays the Dhuhr prayer in Herkes is replaced by Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer, which is 2 fard rakat preceded by a khutbah (sermon) in congregation at the mosque. Outside Friday, today's Dhuhr at 12:25 follows the standard daily structure.

Can Dhuhr be combined with Asr?

Yes — classical jurisprudence permits combining Dhuhr and Asr (jam' al-taqdim or jam' al-ta'khir) under specific conditions such as travel, heavy rain, or illness. Outside those conditions, each prayer should be performed in its own window.

How does today's Dhuhr time in Herkes compare to the same date last year?

On this same date one year ago, Dhuhr in Herkes was at 12:25 local time — identical to today's 12:25. Year-over-year drift is sometimes zero when the leap-year alignment cancels out the typical solar shift.

How many rakat is Dhuhr prayer?

Dhuhr prayer consists of 4 Sunnah, 4 Fard, 2 Sunnah (10 rakat in total). This breakdown follows the standard Sunni convention as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

What direction is the Qibla from Herkes for Dhuhr?

From Herkes, the Qibla bearing toward the Kaaba in Mecca is approximately 66° measured clockwise from true north. The same direction applies to every prayer of the day — only the time of Dhuhr changes daily.

What is the spiritual significance of Dhuhr?

Prayer at midday brings light to the soul when the sun is at its zenith.

Why does the Dhuhr time shift slightly each day?

Dhuhr starts when the sun crosses the local meridian (true noon), which shifts a few minutes each day due to the Earth's elliptical orbit and the equation of time. The figure 12:25 today is computed from astronomical solar transit in Herkes.
